    Impacts of Competitive Uncertainty on Supply Chain Competence and Big Data Analytics Utilization: An Information Processing View

    Research advancements in big data analytics have invoked tremendous attention from both academics and industries. Many researchers refer that the adoption and application of big data analytics could lead to performance impact to organizations, and therefore further affect organizational adoption intention of this technology. However, few studies discuss the association between business strategy and big data analytics adoption under uncertainty such as pandemics or disasters. Furthermore, the role of firms’ functional activities such as supply chain operations has seldom been addressed in the adoption considerations of big data analytics under abnormal situations. In this research, empirical data from enterprises were collected and analyzed to assess the impact of competitive strategy uncertainty on big data analytics adoption and the possible effect of supply chain competence in the linkage. The results supported positive effects of strategy practices and supply chain competence on big data analytics utilization. The implications for management decisions are then elaborated

    Internet of Things Utilization in Marketing for Competitive Advantage: An Organizational Capability Perspective

    Innovative developments in the Internet of Things (IoT) have invoked tremendous attention from both academics and industries. Studies suggest that IoT not only serves as an innovative tool for enterprise operations but also triggers impacts on business performance. As researchers increasingly raise interest about IoT and its applications in marketing and competitive strategy, this study examines its direct and indirect managerial effects by investigating the link between IoT, marketing, and competitive strategy performance. From the organizational capability perspective, this study constructed a research framework in which marketing intelligence capability mediates the effect of IoT capability on business strategy performance. This research conducted an empirical survey and analyzed the data to test the hypotheses in the research framework. The results confirmed the partial mediating effect of marketing intelligence capability in the link between IoT capability and business strategy performance. The paper then discussed the test results and elaborated on the managerial implications

    Understanding the Sustainability Factors in Critical Information Systems for Disastrous Pandemics: A Knowledge-Based View

    During the difficult time of coronavirus outbreaks, global environmental disasters, and financial turmoil, developing and deploying sustainable information systems is a crucial management task for ensuring the functionality of enterprise information processing and thus sustaining competitiveness. This study develops a set of criteria for sustainable information systems using the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method. By referring to the theory of knowledge-based view and sustainability, this study constructed a research framework in which the selection attributes reflect core knowledge elements of a sustainable information system. An empirical study was performed using the DEMATEL method with data collected from industry experts. The results conclude a cause and effect relationship of the knowledge factors influencing information system sustainability. The study discovered that the economical aspect is a causal factor of environmental aspect and social aspect for sustainability considerations. Furthermore, commercial IT solution knowledge, eco-design knowledge, and workplace safety and health knowledge are the most influential knowledge components for the economic, environmental, and social aspects of information system sustainability, respectively

    During the breakout of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), many schools worldwide have enforced a policy of distance education. The Taiwanese students also experienced long hours of learning by using smart technologies for the first time. MIS education is a career preparation for IT professionals who use smart technology in organizations. IT professionals with MIS education backgrounds may have important roles when facing COVID-19. Moreover, many MIS students will become IT professionals and join the workforce for combatting the pandemic using smart technologies with their background of MIS education. This study intends to construct theories that depict the relevance among MIS education, IT professionals, and smart technologies in the confrontation of the COVID-19 pandemic. By using in-depth interviews with MIS students and recent MIS graduates, the possible impacts of COVID-19 outbreaks are analyzed. The results could provide reflective insights for MIS education providers, human resource units, IT firms, and organizations confronting COVID-19 outbreaks

    A Scenario Analysis of Wearable Interface Technology Foresight

    Although the importance and value of wearable interface have gradually being realized, wearable interface related technologies and the priority of adopting these technologies have so far not been clearly recognized. To fill this gap, this paper focuses on the technology planning strategy of organizations that have an interest in developing or adopting wearable interface related technologies. Based on the scenario analysis approach, a technology planning strategy is proposed. In this analysis, thirty wearable interface technologies are classified into six categories, and the importance and risk factors of these categories are then evaluated under two possible scenarios. The main research findings include the discovery that most brain based wearable interface technologies are rated high to medium importance and high risk in all scenarios, and that scenario changes will have less impact on voice based as well as gesture based wearable interface technologies. These results provide a reference for organizations and vendors interested in adopting or developing wearable interface technologies

    Recent advancement of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies has invoked tremendous attention from both academics and industries. The emerging IoT technologies not only serve as possible new tools for enterprise operation, but also trigger impacts in the management arena such as supply chain management (SCM). This study investigates the role of competitive strategy underlying the link between IoT technologies and supply chain performance. By referring to the resource→strategy→performance model, this study builds a research framework in which three strategic positions of firms— low cost, differentiation and market focus—mediate the effect of IoT technologies on supply chain performance. Empirical survey and analysis of enterprise data are conducted to test the hypotheses. The test results support the mediation effects of competitive strategies. Research contributions and managerial implications are elaborated in the conclusions

    Yang-Dan-Tang, Identified from 15 Chinese Herbal Formulae, Inhibits Human Lung Cancer Cell Proliferation via Cell Cycle Arrest

    Lung cancer has long been one of the most deadly forms of cancer. The majority of lung cancers are of the non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) type. Here we used the non-small-cell lung carcinoma cell line A549 to screen 15 different traditional Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) formulae to explore the possible mechanisms of alternative medicine in lung cancer therapy. We identified three formulae (Formulae 3, 5, and 14) that substantially decreased the survival of A549 cells but did not affect MRC5 normal lung tissue cells. Formula 14, Yang-Dan-Tang, a modified decoction of Ramulus Cinnamomi Cassiae, was chosen for further characterization. Flow cytometry analysis showed that treatment of Formula 14 induced cell cycle arrest in G1 and G2 phase without causing significant cell death. These results were also confirmed by Western blot analysis, with decreased expression of G1/S and G2/M promoting cell cycle machinery including cyclin D3, cyclin B1, CDK4, and CDK6.
